In 2009, MWGS has selected 20 sites from all the water gardens maintained by its members. These 20 sites were selected to highlight specific features of a water garden, demonstrating the many ways that water gardens can be integrated into the yard and garden. The water gardens will highlight the different construction techniques, water garden shapes, the many flower types found in a water garden, and many will have fish to include beautiful koi and goldfish. Each water garden is unique, but they will all demonstrate the features of water gardens which may include water falls, streams, fountains, bog gardens, and unique garden statuary. Each garden will have either a formal or informal setting. Water plants will include gorgeous water lilies, Lotus, water hyacinth, umbrella palms, papyrus, Taro, and other tropical plants that grow well during our hot summer weather. They will also include reeds, irises, cannas, cardinal flower, and other hardy plants that are native to Minnesota's climate. The gardens surrounding the water feature will of course feature all manner of plants native to Minnesota.

Minnesota Water Garden Society prides itself on its knowledge of and its ability to explain the mechanics of the water garden and the plants and fish that make up that garden. The gardens on display were either built by the owner or a reputable contractor well known to the community. Maintenance of the water garden features and the plants is done by the site owner and will be gladly and fully explained if asked. Additional personnel from MWGS will be on hand to assist the site owner in explaining the various aspects of water gardening and to assist the visitors in their visit to the site.

Come and join us during this year's Tour and enjoy the pleasures of a water garden and see gardening through the eyes of a water gardener.
